1   Pipers' Abroad / International Teachers. Course, Switzerland  on: Aug 8th, 2008, 10:45am

Hello Everyone
What a great course it was. Very hot and very busy - I know I wasn't the only one who was tired but it was worth it.
Pierre's music has been going round in my brain all week. I think he has been one of the best professionals we have had and it was good to be able to work with him all week.

I am still tuning my harp but it will take a while to get it right I think.

Of course one of the best things is meeting friends and sharing lots of talk, coffee and the occasional glass of wine.
Can we keep the forum going now and use it to keep communications going? I'd like to think so.
I'll have some photos on webshots soon, next week if possible. Hopefully we can share others too.
Miss you all already but looking forward to France.
Shirley

It looks (and sounds) like a recorder/tinwhistle variant, possibly particular to Romania. I lean towards the recorder variant, as it obviously has two sections. But this is all supposition on my part, as I haven't seen this variant before.
HTH,
Margaret

It is sad to accept that this site is inactive.

6   Coffee Break / free sheet music for Christmas  on: Nov 28th, 2007, 9:09pm

If it would be of little trouble, I would appreciate if any of you would consider posting Internet links to Christmas sheet music you have found appropriate for your pipes.

I feel sure that many of you do play during these days of celebration.

Many thanks,

andy

 7   Coffee Break / Anyone out there?  on: Sep 17th, 2007, 8:24pm

Gosh fall is here...hum, another season. Is anyone out there? Who is making a pipe? who is gathering bamboo?

One of the biology faculty took this fellow on a field trip Sunday afternoon and showed me the "original American cane". Tiny stuff, but I gathered some for making ink pens. Then we gathered polk berries for making ink.

An hour later we found the "arundo donax" and I just had to cut some and rush home to make a couple of six holed whistles. It's a fun time of the year.

]What are you folks doing?

No, it is unfortunate that I am not there in the UK, a circumstance which makes me ever more interested in hearing about the Scottish summer school/workshop.

As my school has just started, my time with making flutes is over save for the afternoons I might be able to harvest some bamboo and our native arundo donax (a cane-like grass). I still worry about snakes untiil December, but even that makes this study even more interesting.

It's still very hot with a week of over 104 degrees heat--guess it's so hot I can't even find the spell check button in the menu!?

Hi Andy. Sounds like you're somewhere other than the UK you lucky person! Most of the UK folk are on their way back from the UK Summer School so I'm sure you'll hear some stories in time. I do agree about the folders so I'll see what I can do. Once people get in the habit of chatting on here I'm sure there'll be a bit more movement!

Summer is almost over here. Still there will be several weeks of 90 degree weather. It's dry here with only three half hour showers since May 4th. Trees are now having a difficult time.

What's going on? Had your morning coffee yet? Would this membership page become more active if there were only one forum folder? Having corresponded with a few of the members, I know the energy, the travels, the tales--wow, it really would be nice to hear more!

Simple life here, going to a garden to pick corn, watermelon, and a tomato or two---ah yes, hot peppers also!

enjoying my latest tenor pipe with the buzzing membrane--comparing it to the other tenors......

What about a summer story?

Andy
